In Dragør, you’ll find charming farm shops and roadside stalls stocked with everything from freshly picked vegetables and crisp apples to new potatoes – you can even head out into the fields and pick your own strawberries.

For more than 500 years, the area has supplied Copenhagen with fresh produce. In the 16th century, the Danish king invited Dutch farmers to settle in St. Magleby on Amager. The aim was to ensure the capital a steady supply of fresh vegetables while introducing new, more efficient farming methods. Many of the farms you can visit today have roots in that era, when the town was one of Copenhagen’s most important vegetable suppliers.
